Councilman Romal Bullock represents the Second Ward on the East Orange City Council and currently serves as Vice-Chairman, in partnership with Council Chairman Ted Green and the rest of his colleagues on the Council. He is a dedicated citizen servant with a background in law, real estate and municipal taxation. Sworn into office in January of 2014, Councilman Bullock is dedicated to community development and enhancing the role of “people power” as he strives to provide a voice for all of the residents of his ward and the City as a whole.
A true East Orange success story, Bullock grew up in a single parent household in East Orange’s Fourth Ward, where his family’s hard work and emphasis on education led him to study at Temple University and, later, Rutgers Law School. During Law School, he served as a Vice President of the Student Bar Association. Afterwards, Bullock began practicing law, focusing primarily in the area of property tax and municipal government issues, as well as some commercial litigation and criminal defense cases. Five years ago, Bullock left the private sector and became the Tax Assessor for the City of Newark. There, he manages the staff, budget, and functions of what is by far the largest municipal tax assessment office in the state. In his professional and community activities, he has earned a reputation as an incisively intelligent problem-solver who weaves his understanding of complex issues and big ideas into common-sense, every day solutions. As the proud father of a one-year old son, he takes seriously his responsibility to strengthen the Second Ward and enable our families today to achieve their dreams for a brighter tomorrow.
